Cleaning Tombstones at a Cemetary

Today we went to a Jewish cemetery to clean the dirty tombstones. We used bleach, water, and soap and we scrubbed the tombstones to make them clean. We observed the mitzvah called כיבוד המת-honor the poor, because by cleaning the tombstones, it is showing that we care about the people that died even though they are dead. This is important because we learned this week that having a funeral makes the person who is about to die, feel a little peace of mind to know what happens to them when they die. I am really lucky to have had the opportunity to clean the tombstones, because it made me feel really great to clean the tombstones today. I wish people will clean my tombstone when I die. It was really moving to be able to clean the tombstones.
