Comparing and Ordering Positive and Negative Numbers

We are learning about positive and negative numbers.   A negative number is a number below zero.   A positive number is a number above zero.   A negative number looks like a regular number, it just has a minus symbol in front of it.   We learned that when you are using positive and negative numbers, it goes from left to right.   Left is smallest and right is largest.   Like this: -21<-3 the number negative three is larger, so the “alligator” wants to “eat” it.   That is an example of  negative numbers.   Now I will show you an example for positive numbers.   12>8 the number twelve is larger so the “alligator” wants to “eat” it.   We also answered questions like: what is one more than three (the answer is four), or what is five more than negative ten (the answer is negative five).   Below there are two pictures of a number line with positive and negative numbers
